Mars and Perserverance

On February 18, 2021, the United States landed the Perserverance Rover on Mars after a 7 month journey, an historic event. Everyday we receive pictures from Mars with a delay of around 15 minutes over a distance of 130 million miles that will reveal Mars history of ancient life to us. Perserverance will drill for soil samples and bring them back to Earth- so exciting! My last blog about Air Home Quality helps us understand the importance of this NASA scientist’s work. Viral contamination in our homes and environments can be controlled with the right practices and technology. Moogega Cooper at NASA is responsible for restricting the contamination of the Mars environment by spores (the only organism that can survive the journey) from Earth. They take this process to the nth degree regarding air filtration, protective clothing and equipment sanitization. Check out this and other PBS videos to learn more and appreciate the advancements made by NASA and woman scientists in the exploration of Mars.
